How ChannelDax collects and uses your information, including Google and YouTube data obtained through OAuth.

Last updated: August 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what ChannelDax (“we,” “us”) collects when you use channeldax.com and related features (the “Service”), how we use it, and your choices. It should be read with our Terms of Service.

ChannelDax uses Google APIs and YouTube API Services. Google’s practices are described in Google’s Privacy Policy. YouTube’s terms are at YouTube Terms of Service.

1. Google / YouTube data we access

We access Google and YouTube user data only after you sign in or connect YouTube, and only for the purposes below. We do not use that data to serve ads, and we do not sell it.

Sign-in (Google OAuth / OpenID)

Account creation and login use Google via Amazon Cognito. We request the email and profile scopes (with OpenID) so we can identify you, create your ChannelDax account, display your name or email where the product needs it, and contact you about the account.

YouTube connection

Connecting YouTube is optional until you use features that require it. We request YouTube Data API access that includes read access equivalent to youtube.readonly so we can:

  • import the channels you subscribe to on YouTube into Your Channels;
  • compute a personal taste vector (an embedding of your preferences) used for Discover, similar-channel ranking, and Ask AI context.

We currently request https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.force-ssl, which includes that read access and also lets us subscribe to channels on your YouTube account when you explicitly use Discover Subscribe. We store OAuth tokens (including a refresh token when Google issues one) so those features can work until you revoke access or we delete the tokens.

We follow Google’s API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use: Google user data obtained through these APIs is used to provide or improve user-facing features of ChannelDax, not for independent advertising or to train generalized models unrelated to those features.

2. Other information we collect

  • Preference quiz answers and derived taste signals.
  • Custom lists you create (names, descriptions, channel membership, public/private setting).
  • Product usage needed to enforce monthly caps (for example Ask AI message counts and Discover Subscribe counts).
  • Channels you add to the shared catalog (title, IDs, and similar public metadata). Catalog records may remain available to other users even if your account is later deleted.
  • Technical logs (approximate time, request path, error codes) used to operate and secure the Service.

3. How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • authenticate you and keep you signed in;
  • personalize Discover, lists, and Ask AI using your taste vector and imported subscriptions;
  • enforce account-tier limits and prevent abuse;
  • moderate public lists and protect the Service, other users, and our API quotas;
  • comply with law and Google/YouTube developer policies.

4. Sharing

We share data with infrastructure providers that process it on our behalf (for example hosting, database, authentication, and AI model providers) under contracts that limit their use. Public lists and catalog channels are visible to others by design.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the Service, users, or the public. We do not sell personal information.

5. How to revoke YouTube API access

You may revoke ChannelDax’s access to your Google/YouTube account at any time in Google’s security settings:

https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions

After you revoke access, we can no longer call YouTube on your behalf. Stored tokens may fail on the next refresh; you can also email us (below) and ask us to delete stored YouTube tokens from our database. Revoking access does not automatically delete your ChannelDax account, lists, or taste vector.

6. Data retention

We keep personal account data for as long as your account is active and as needed to operate the Service:

  • Profile and authentication identifiers: until account deletion.
  • YouTube OAuth tokens: until you revoke access, we replace them on reconnect, or we delete them after a deletion request or prolonged invalid-token failures.
  • Imported subscription links, quiz answers, taste vectors, and custom lists: until you remove them in-product (where that exists) or we delete the account.
  • Monthly usage counters: for the current period and a limited history needed to enforce caps and debug billing-related limits.
  • Security and server logs: typically for a short operational window, unless we must keep them longer for investigations or legal holds.

Shared catalog channel records are not treated as solely your personal data. We generally do not remove a catalog channel just because the user who first added it later deletes their account.

7. Account or data deletion

You can delete your ChannelDax account from Account settings. That removes your user record and personal account data (including YouTube tokens, taste vectors, private lists, list likes, Discover reactions, quiz answers, and usage counters tied to you). Shared catalog channel records stay, as described above.

You can also email privacy@channeldax.com from the Google account address you use to sign in. We will verify the request and, unless we must retain information for legal, security, or dispute reasons, complete deletion or anonymization within thirty (30) days.

Public list pages may remain in caches or backups for a limited time after deletion. You should also revoke Google access using the link in Section 5 so Google stops issuing tokens to us.

8. Children

The Service is not directed at children and is intended for users who can agree to YouTube’s Terms. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. The “Last updated” date will change. Material changes will apply going forward. Continued use of the Service after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
